Hello, my friends and customers,
As many of you know, my mission is to stay healthy, active, and mobile for the rest of my life — just as I have been over the past ten years.
Every day on this blog, I’ll share a little insight into the supplements I take — one by one — and how they support my daily life.
Today, I want to talk about Vitamin A.
It might not be the flashiest vitamin out there, but it’s super important for keeping you feeling and looking good every day. It’s also one of the 100+ supplements I take daily because of its powerful benefits for vision, immunity, skin health, and more.
What’s Vitamin A anyway?
It’s a group of nutrients that your body needs to do a bunch of things — especially keeping your eyes sharp and your immune system strong. There are tree main types: the kind you get from animal foods (like liver and eggs) the kind your body makes from colorful veggies like carrots and spinach, and supplements to add on.
Why should you care?
-
Eye health: Ever wondered why carrots are famous for helping your eyesight? That’s because Vitamin A helps your eyes adjust when it’s dark and keeps them healthy overall. Personally, I’m taking it as part of my goal to reduce or even get rid of my glasses.
-
Immune system: It helps your body fight off bugs by keeping your skin and the inside of your nose and throat healthy — these act as first-line defenses.
-
Skin & cell health: Vitamin A helps your skin repair itself and keeps your cells doing their jobs properly. This can even help with wrinkle prevention!
Where to find it?
-
Animal goodies like liver, eggs, and cheese have ready-to-use Vitamin A.
-
Veggies like carrots, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens have beta-carotene, which your body turns into Vitamin A when needed.
How much do you need?
For most adults, about 700 to 900 micrograms a day does the trick. (I take a product from fish liver oil, 3mg = 10.000 IU in the morning - I always skip breakfast, as most of you know)
One heads-up:
Vitamin A is fat-soluble, so too much can hang around and cause problems. Always talk to a doctor before taking big doses of Vitamin A supplements, especially if you’re pregnant, nursing, taking other medications, or have health concerns. And always keep supplements out of reach of children.
I'll keep you posted on my observations.
If you're on a similar journey, feel free to comment and share your own experience with Vitamin A!
Tomorrow, I’ll talk about another powerful eye health supporter: Lycopene. Stay tuned!
